Concurrent launches new location product for ‘electronic warfare’

by | Jan 26, 2022

Embedded computer board designer and manufacturer Concurrent Technologies announced a new ‘plug-in-card’ (PIC) product on Wednesday.
The AIM-traded firm said the product, ‘PR A11/61d-RCR’, was designed to provide resilient position, navigation and timing data for sensor-based solutions used in electronic warfare and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance applications.

It said that understanding where assets were within a battlefield environment was “vital”, with electronic warfare systems requiring accurate position, navigation and timing information to ensure mission success.

The PIC product would enable accurate data to be provided to communication and control hubs, even if the Global Navigation Satellite Signal system was jammed or spoofed by external forces.

Concurrent said the PIC was aligned to the ‘SOSA’ technical standard, but as it was designed and manufactured in the UK, it was not subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which restricts access to certain US-made military technologies to citizens of the United States, and others with State Department approval.

The company said the product’s primary market was the defence sector, saying it had been working with several lead UK and European Union customers in its design.

Its board said focusing on ground-based vehicles and the development of the product reflected its strategy to deliver material revenue growth in 2023 and beyond.

“The development of this new position, navigation and timing (PNT) plug-in card shows that Concurrent Technologies is now investing in products that provide additional differentiated capability alongside our state of the art single board computers,” said chief executive officer Miles Adcock.

“This product will have universal appeal but was driven by the needs of several lead customers who are looking to Concurrent Technologies to bolster the scope of UK sovereign capability for assured PNT.”

At 1514 GMT, shares in Concurrent Technologies were up 1.2% at 84p.
