London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.7% at 7,572.09 in afternoon trade on Monday.
Flutter Entertainment was the standout gainer following reports it has launched an eleventh-hour bid to bring the National Lottery back into domestic ownership as.

According to The Telegraph, chief executive Peter Jackson is understood to have written to the Gambling Commission to emphasise his support for a deal after agreeing to buy one of the contenders to win the UK’s biggest single public sector contract.

Miners Anglo American and Rio Tinto both gained as metals prices rose, while banks Lloyds and Barclays were on the rise following last week’s Bank of England interest rate hike.

Supermarkets were under the cosh, with Ocado, Sainsbury’s and Tesco all weaker.
