FTSE 100 movers: Polymetal slumps; M&G rallies

by | Mar 8, 2022

London’s FTSE 100 was down 0.1% at 6,950.48 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.
Anglo-Russian precious metals miner Polymetal was the worst performer on the index.

Going the other way, M&G rallied after it announced a £500m share buyback as the investment manager posted reduced annual operating profit resulting partly from changes to the expected death rate.

Russian steelmaker Evraz gained as investors stepped in to pick up a bargain after recent heavy losses.

Precious metals miner Fresnillo shone after it posted a jump in full-year profit and revenues, thanks in part to higher silver prices. In the year to the end of December 2021, pre-tax profit rose 10.9% to $611.5m on revenue of $2.7bn, up 11.2% on the previous year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation were up 3.2% to $1.2bn.
