FTSE 250 movers: Cineworld back in favour but no appetite for Greggs

by | Jan 10, 2022

London’s FTSE 250 was down 1.40% at 23,027.15 in afternoon trade on Monday.

Movie theatre chain Cineworld topped the index with an 8% rise as investors went bargain hunting as fears about the severity of the Omicron Covid variant eased.

Shares in the company slumped last month after a Canadian court ruled it had to pay £722m in damages to a rival it came close to buying. Cineworld said it is appealing the decision.

Plus500 rallied after saying it had delivered an “outstanding” operational and financial performance throughout FY2021, ahead of market expectations.

Tate & Lyle benefited from a rating upgrade to ‘outperform’ by brokers at Exane.

Shares in bakery chain Greggs fell more than 5% on news it was hiking the price of its famous sausage rolls.
