London’s FTSE 250 was up 0.5% at 23,072.15 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.
RHI Magnesita was the standout performer after the release of a third-quarter trading update and as it announced the acquisition of a stake in a Turkish producer of refractories for the cement, steel, glass and other industries.
Online price comparison platform Moneysupermarket.com surged after saying it was buying consumer cashback website Quidco for up to £101m.
Greeting cards retailer Moonpig was also on the rise after an initiation at ‘buy’ by Berenberg.
Going the other way, gambling firm 888 fell as it said it will take a $10m hit to profits after its Dutch business stopped operations from the start of October because of changes to gaming rules.
EasyJet flew lower despite an upgrade to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’ at Berenberg, which said the airline’s balance sheet is now fit to comfortably weather a weak winter period, while a potential dilutive equity raise no longer hangs over shares.
Wizz Air was also in the red after a downgrade to ‘hold’ from ‘buy’ by the same outfit.
