Thursday preview: US jobs data, German producer prices in focus

by | Jun 1, 2022

Financial markets’ focus on Thursday will be on a flurry of US job market indicators.

At 1315 GMT and in the run-up to Friday’s non-farm payrolls report, consultancy ADP will publish its report on private sector payrolls in May.

A quarter of an hour later, the Department of Labor will publish initial unemployment claims data for the week ending on 28 May.

Investors will also be keeping an eye out for a report on quarterly labour productivity and unit labour costs, both of which play a key role in determining price pressures.

And against the backdrop of heightened attention on signals from the Fed around its intended path for interest rates in the US, Cleveland Fed boss, Loretta Mester, will take to the podium at 1300 GMT.

Across the Channel meanwhile, all eyes will be on a report on producer prices in Germany for the month of April.

No major economic releases are scheduled in the UK on account of the Spring bank holiday.
