The market spotlight will shift back towards Asia on Tuesday, albeit only briefly.
Overnight, China’s National Bureau of Statistics is scheduled to release foreign trade data covering the month of March.
Economists at Barclays Research’s forecast is for a year-on-year rate of growth in sales of goods to overseas from January-February’s febrile pace of about 60% to a still elevated 30.0%.
Import growth meanwhile is seen picking up from the 22% pace seen over the first two months of the year to 25%.
While the above figures are consequential, more so are US consumer price data for March which are due out at 1330 GMT.
Market consensus is for the annual rate of CPI to accelerate from 1.7% for February to 2.5% in March, with core CPI up alongside from 1.3% to 1.6%.
Nevertheless, Barclays for one does not expect to see either a significant nor sustained increase in CPI past the Federal Reserve’s 2.0% target due to the “significant” amount of slack still present in the labour market.
Against that backdrop, at 0700 GMT the Office for National Statistics will publish gross domestic product figures for the month of February.
Consensus is for month-on-month growth of 0.5% with output from services edging lower by a tenth of a percentage point, that from industry off by 0.5%, but in construction up by 0.5%.
Across the Channel, the prestigious ZEW institute is due to publish its closely-followed economic confidence index for Germany referencing the month of April.
