Tuesday preview: Global services PMIs, ECB’s Lagarde in focus

by | Oct 4, 2021

The market spotlight will be on the global services sector on Tuesday with a spate of surveys covering the sector scheduled for release on either side of the Pond.
Chief among those will be the US Institute for Supply Management’s services sector Purchasing Managers Index for September at 1500 BST.

On home shores meanwhile, at 0930 BST IHS Markit will publish a final reading for its own services sector PMI corresponding to that same month.

Consensus is for the UK services PMI to be unchanged from a preliminary reading of 54.6 but down from a print of 55.0 in August.

It will be a similar story across the Channel, with IHS Markit due to publish the ‘final’ reading for its euro area services PMI for last month.

Investors will also be keeping an eye out for producer price data for the single currency bloc in August.

They will be followed by a speech from European Central Bank president, Christine Lagarde, at 1500 BST.

Policymakers in Romania will announce their latest monetary policy decision.

Down Under, rate-setters in Sydney are also due to meet to decide on interest rates.

Markets on mainland China will remain closed in observance of the Golden Week holidays.
