The spotlight in financial markets on Tuesday was expected to be on the US housing market.
At 1330 GMT, the Department of Commerce would release figures for US housing starts and building permits in November, the first of three reports for the sector that were due out over the course of the week.
Further afield, rate-setters in Tokyo would announce their latest monetary policy decision at 0850 GMT, followed by their counterparts in Beijing at 0915 GMT.
Across the Channel meanwhile, investors would be digesting a flurry of second-tier economic data, including producer price data for Germany in November and a first reading on euro area consumer confidence in December (consensus: 22.0).
No major economic releases were scheduled in the UK.
