Investors’ focus on Tuesday will be on the US jobs market, as the Department of Labor releases its JOLTS report for the month of August.
Market participants will be looking to see if the number of job vacancies and so-called quits are beginning to come down, which might indicate a degree of loosening in labour market conditions.
At least five top Federal Reserve officials are expected to take to the podium and may provide further clues into the central bank’s current thinking.
Across the Channel meanwhile, European Central Bank President, Christine Lagarde, is scheduled to speak at an event hosted by the central bank of Cyprus.
Euro area producer price figures for August are also due out, at 1000 BST.
No major economic releases are scheduled in the UK.
Further afield, rate-setters Down Under will meet to decide on interest rates.
Economists have penciled-in a 50 basis point interest rate hike in the Reserve Bank of Australia’s cash rate to 2.85%.
In Japan, investors will be waiting on core consumer price data for Tokyo covering the month of September.
