Investors’ focus over the coming week will be squarely on the European Central Bank’s policy meeting on Thursday, which ECB chief Christine Lagarde herself on 11 July said would include “some interesting variations and changes.”
Speaking after the end of talks between G20 finance ministers’ in Venice, Lagarde also said that the ECB might introduce fresh policy stimulus in 2022.
Just days before, the ECB had concluded its multiannual strategy review and raised its inflation target.
Also of key importance will be preliminary readings for a slate of services and manufacturing sector Purchasing Managers’ Indices from the UK, euro area and US out of survey compiler IHS Markit.
On home shores, public sector borrowing data for June are scheduled for release on Wednesday, followed by a reading on monthly UK retail sales the next day.
Stateside meanwhile, the flow of economic data is due to ebb over the coming week, although readings for housing starts and existing home sales will be forthcoming on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
As ever, US jobless claims data on Thursday will continue to be closely scrutinised.
