Financial markets’ focus over the coming week will shift to readings on inflation pressures from different parts of the globe.
First out, on Monday, will be readings on Chinese consumer and factory gate prices in July, followed by readings out of Germany and the US two days later.
In the UK, gross domestic product data out on Thursday is expected to show the economy continues to recover.
Expectations are that GDP grew at a quarter-on-quarter pace of 4.8% over the three months to June and by 1.0% month-on-month in the last month of thee quarter.
A smattering of Fed speakers are also scheduled to take to the podium at the start of the week, while Friday will see the release of a preliminary reading on the University of Michigan’s consumer confidence index for August.
In the background meanwhile, as Barclays Research points out, where as economic growth in the euro area appears to be off to a firm start in the third quarter and vaccinations are proceeding apace, in China and Japan the Delta variant could impact negatively on GDP.
Stateside meanwhile, the new infrastructure spending package appears to have buttressed expectations for economic growth.
