The market spotlight over the coming week will shift back towards global inflation with consumer price data due out in the United States and Germany.
Figures scheduled for release on Thursday are expected to show that consumer price gains in America accelerated to an annual rate of 7.2%, up from 7.0% for the month before.
They will be followed during the following session by a preliminary reading for US consumer confidence in February, courtesy of the University of Michigan.
A reading on German consumer prices will also be released on Friday.
Investors will also be keeping an eye on speeches from ECB boss, Christine Lagarde, on Monday, and from the central bank’s chief economist and vice-President, on Thursday, for any policy-relevant remarks.
On home shores, and also on Friday, the Office for National Statistics will publish a preliminary reading for fourth quarter gross domestic product.
Year-on-year, the rate of GDP growth is expected to slow from 6.8% over the third quarter to 6.4%.
Month-on-month on the other hand GDP is expected to have declined by 0.5% in December, mainly due to the drag from services.
Central bank policy decisions are scheduled to be announced in India and Thailand on Wednesday and in Indonesia and Sweden on Thursday.
