Investors will be continuing to keep a close eye on inflationary pressures around the world over the coming week.
Not surprisingly, the latest US price data, in the form of January’s producer price report, on Tuesday, may be key.
And if the consensus is correct, price pressures in the pipeline may be set to ebb a little, but the opposite may well occur.
Also due for release are consumer and factory gate price data for the UK, on Wednesday, with the annual rate of increase for the former expected to have remained steady versus the month before at 5.4%.
Chinese CPI data for January are due out on the same day.
Readings on fourth quarter GDP and January consumer prices in Japan are scheduled to be published on Monday and Thursday, respectively.
As far as activity indicators are concerned, UK labour market data for December are due out on Tuesday, followed by retail sales figures for last month on Thursday.
In the US, Wednesday will bring with it the monthly retail sales report and the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s last policy meeting. Thursday meanwhile will see the results of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s regional manufacturing survey.
Worth noting, on Tuesday, the UK Debt Management Office will auction 10-year Gilts, followed by a sale of similarly-dated debt in Germany and an auction of 20-year debt in the US on the next day.
In the background, markets are likely to be keeping an exceedingly close eye on all things related with Ukraine and Russia.
Trading volumes in US stock markets may become thinner as the week progresses, as investors close out positions ahead of the long weekend ahead.
