All eyes over the coming week will be on a raft of data on the US jobs market.
Key among those reports, as always, will be Friday’s monthly non-farm payrolls report.
The Department of Commerce is seen announcing a slowdown in the pace of hiring from the 263,000 person clip observed during the previous month to 200,000.
Nonetheless, the JOLTS labour market survey due out two days before for the month of November may also move financial markets.
So too the secondary jobless claims numbers that will be published on Thursday.
Markets will also be waiting on the latest factory and services Purchasing Managers’ Indices from the Institute for Supply Management’s on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
Across the Channel, investors will be waiting on the release of final readings for S&P Global’s PMIs for euro area manufacturing and services for December.
They will be released on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Yet arguably the most important data point of the week on the Continent won’t come until Friday, when Eurostat will provide a first look at euro area consumer prices at the end of 2022.
Consensus is for a dip in the year-on-year rate of headline consumer price gains from 10.1% in November to 9.6% in December.
Barclays Research however is anticipating a steeper drop to 9.2%, although core CPI is only seen slipping from 5.0% to 4.9%.
In the UK, equivalent PMI results are due out on Tuesday and Thursday.
Consumer credit figures for the month of November will arrive on Wednesday.
On the other side of the globe, in China, Caixin’s monthly manufacturing PMI will be published on Monday – preceded by the official PMI at the weekend – with foreign trade numbers, also for December, expected on Friday.
