Data from the Datasite platform, which annually facilitates 15,000 new global deals, shows that US and EMEA deals are already up – although APAC is down.

US deal kickoffs for the week following the 2024 election increased 44% year-on-year (YoY), with a 19% YoY uplift across EMEA. Deal kickoffs, however, were down -30% YoY across APAC, although this still resulted in a 20% global increase versus the same week last year.

Financing deals, US asset sales, and healthcare have been the key drivers of this uptick. Meanwhile, PE logins on the Datasite platform jumped 22% the week of Nov 4, reaching the highest weekly PE registration rate so far in 2024.

Additionally, after delays due to election concerns various deals are now re-launching. Deals were put on hold with global political shifts across the US and EMEA impacting throughout summer, alongside resourcing and bandwidth constraints following April-May’s heavy deal flow.

Merlin Piscitelli, Datasite EMEA Chief Revenue Officer, comments: “The incoming administration is expected to pursue a business-friendly agenda and potential deregulation. The approach is already affecting business strategies, increasing activity on Datasite, which facilitates about 15,000 new deals annually, and more certainty on transaction timelines. This includes a possible return to a more typical six-to-nine-month deal cycle after transaction timelines lengthened in 2024.

Additionally, US targets may become more attractive if potential changes in tariff policies are enacted, spurring organisations to establish US operations to avoid any hikes. At the same time, scrutiny of non-US buyers may increase due to security concerns, which may impact cross-border M&A deal flows.”
