by | Jun 16, 2021

Polar Capital Holdings plc (Polar Capital), the specialist active asset management group, has announced that Thiemo Lang and a team of three investment managers will join Polar Capital from Robeco Switzerland Ltd, Zurich, in September 2021 and are expecting to launch their first funds later this year.

Gavin Rochussen, CEO, Polar Capital Holdings, commented, “Polar Capital has always attracted exceptional talent due to the culture, transparency and investment autonomy that the investment teams have.”

The team’s expertise in sustainable equity strategies focuses on the transformation and decarbonisation of the energy sector, and on the emerging electric vehicle theme. The investment strategies the team creates provide sustainable answers to the growing worldwide demand for clean and competitive energy and transportation.

Rochussen continued, “This team represents an excellent opportunity for us to partner with a highly skilled and experienced investment team and to expand the range of sustainable equity strategies which we can offer our clients.

At Polar Capital the team will be led by Thiemo Lang who has a PhD in micro-optics and photonics from the Grenoble Institute of Technology. He studied at the University of Stuttgart and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and has more than two decades of thematic investment experience.

The well-established investment team consists of highly specialised investment professionals with an exceptional thematic knowledge acquired over many years, running more than €5bn in sustainable energy and mobility strategies. Investment performance has been strong in absolute and relative terms, with outperformance of the relevant benchmarks in 2020, over three years, and since inception.

Rochussen concluded, “This is an area that is in its infancy and will be a growing part of any mandate in the coming years as the world looks to build a more sustainable future for the next generations. They are an excellent addition to Polar Capital, and I look forward to working with the team.”
