60 nominees announced for 2024 Alpha Manager Awards from FE fundinfo

by | Mar 28, 2024

Today FE fundinfo, the global leader in investment fund data and technology for the fund management industry, announced the nominees of its annual Alpha Manager Awards. The prestigious awards showcase and celebrate exceptional fund managers who are leaders in the industry, delivering above benchmark alpha returns for clients. The awards look across a fund manager’s career, including all funds they have managed and businesses they’ve worked for.

This year’s 60 nominees have been recognised in twelve different investment categories, with awards for Best New Alpha Manager, Alpha Manager of the year, and a range of specific national awards. The results of the awards will be announced in May.

Returning Champions

Six of last year’s winners have been shortlisted again in the categories they won in 2023.

Julian Fosh and Anthony Cross, both from Liontrust, and Robin Parbrook from Schroders are once again nominated for the Alpha Manager of the Year Award. This marks the second year in a row the three fund managers have been shortlisted. They will be going head-to-head with Terry Smith, from Fundsmith, David Gait, from Stewart Investors, and Hyunho Sohn from Fidelity.

Upcoming talent

A key part of the awards is recognising upcoming talent, with a separate category, ‘Best New Alpha Manager’, for Alpha Managers who have been rated for the first time in 2024.

The nominees in this category are Jacques Hirsch from Carmignac, Mark Mandel from Wellington, Jeroen Brand from NB, Charles Somers from Schroders, and James Bullock from Lindsell Train.

Nominees of last year’s ‘Best New AM’ continue to make an impact, with three of last year’s candidates shortlisted again in 2024.  Craig Inches from Royal London is competing with last year’s winner, Jonathan Golan from Man GLG, for the Sterling Fixed Income Award. Meanwhile, Matthew Rees from Legal & General has been shortlisted alongside colleague Colin Reedie for the Strategic Bond award.

Charles Younes, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, FE fundinfo, said:

“Market uncertainty is rapidly becoming the norm for fund managers, with wars in Europe and the Middle East, record high interest rates, and political instability around the world. The Alpha Manager Awards recognise the best of the industry, highlighting the achievements of fund managers who have faced these challenges head on and helped unlock value for their clients in unpredictable times.

“Even just to make it onto the shortlist is a huge achievement, highlighting a fund manager’s long term success and outperformance of market benchmarks. We would like to congratulate everyone for being nominated and wish the nominees good luck for the announcement of the award winners in May.”
