London’s FTSE 250 was down 0.3% at 23,539.96 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.
Restaurant Group surged to the top of the index after it lifted full-year earnings expectations as it said it has traded well since its last update in September, with like-for-like sales outperformance versus the market across its Wagamama, pubs and leisure businesses.
As a result, it now expects FY21 adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of between £73m and £79m, subject to no unexpected Covid related disruptions being announced before the end of the financial year.
Homeserve gained after it lifted its dividend and posted a jump in interim profit and revenue thanks to a strong performance in North America and Continental Europe and from its Home Experts business.
Bridgepoint was up after a quarterly update, while Ninety One advanced on the back of well-received results.
Cineworld was under the cosh, having rallied sharply a day earlier after it said that box office and concession revenues in October were at 90% of pre-Covid levels as “an excellent slate of films” drove a recovery.
Plastic pipe maker Genuit was in the red after it said operating margins in the second half would be lower due to the impact of inflationary pressures, as it maintained full-year guidance.
Petropavlovsk was knocked lower by a downgrade to ‘hold’ at Peel Hunt.
