London’s FTSE 250 was down 0.5% at 22,442.03 in afternoon trade on Wednesday.
Cineworld tumbled after it was ordered to pay Canadian theatre company Cineplex CAD1.28bn (ยฃ751.57m) in damages after pulling out of a planned takeover.
Electricals retailer Currys fell sharply after it reported higher first-half profits but warned its market has been softer over recent weeks and it could face more headwinds from the Omicron Covid variant.
Travel and hospitality shares were under the cosh again, no doubt amid worries about the impact of Omicron. Cruiser operator Carnival, budget airlines Wizz Air and easyJet and pub group Mitchells & Butlers all lost ground.
Baltic Classifieds was the standout gainer after well-received first-half results.
Playtech was also trading higher after Sky News reported on Tuesday that Caliente Interactive, in which it owns a 49% stake, is in talks about a $2.5bn merger with Tekkorp Digital, a US-listed special purpose acquisition company.
