The Trade War Effect – A New Era of Uncertainty

We always had a feeling that the new Trump administration would shake things upโ€”both geopolitically and economically. But the sheer speed and scale of the shake-up? Well, thatโ€™s taken a few people by surprise. Since January, barely a day has gone by without a new headline, a policy shift, or a Truth Social post that sends markets into a spin.

For wealth managers, this constant flux means asset allocation and stock selection strategies are under intense scrutiny. Tariffs, in particular, have been front and centre. Trump, as we know, is a big fanโ€”he thinks theyโ€™re โ€˜greatโ€™. The implementation, however, has been a bit of a rollercoaster: introduced, delayed, extended, rescinded, and then reintroduced. But now, the tariff battle lines are firmly drawn, and the world is, quite frankly, on edge.

For a while, markets shrugged it all off. But in early March, reality set in. A US market correction reminded us that even the mighty Wall Street isnโ€™t immune to fears of inflationโ€”or the dreaded R-word: recession. One thing is clear: the global economy has entered a new paradigm, and everyone is reassessing their strategies in this rapidly shifting landscape.

Expert Insights in This Issue

That includes wealth managers, of course. So, in this edition of Wealth DFM Magazine, we bring you expert insights into whatโ€™s happening in global markets right now. Weโ€™re especially grateful to Cazenove Capitalโ€™s Grace Lavelle and Ahmet Feridun for their deep dive into what a more isolationist America could mean for investors.

Looking Back: 25 Years Since the DotCom Bubble

Also in this issue, weโ€™re marking 25 years since the DotCom bubble burst. (Yes, that milestone makes me feel ancient too). Our thanks go to six industry experts for highlighting lessons for todayโ€™s tech boom from that dotcom bust.

Celebrating Women in Wealth Management

Earlier this month, Wealth DFM celebrated women in wealth management for International Womenโ€™s Day. This yearโ€™s theme, #AccelerateAction, resonated with usโ€”because a more diverse sector benefits everyone. We heard powerful stories from industry leaders, and if you missed it, catch up HERE: including 3 inspiring podcasts with Clare Francis, Yasmina Siadatan, and Jenny Segal!

The ESG Debate

Finally, regular Wealth DFM contributor, JB Beckett, is back with another thought-provoking blogโ€”this time tackling the shifting fortunes of ESG investing. ESG has had quite the journey, and JBโ€™s take is always worth a read.

In unpredictable markets, staying informed and adapting to change is key. We’re aiming to help with that. I hope you find this latest edition of Wealth DFM of interest, as always it’s just a snapshot of all the great content we run daily for wealth managers – right here on www.WealthDFM.com.
