FinTech Week London: UK banks, insurers and asset managers are ahead of the game compared to their European peers in terms of FinTech experience at board level

As FinTech Week London kicks off today, the EY European Financial Services Boardroom Monitor shows how FinTech expertise is represented on the boards of the UK’s major financial institutions.

Anna Anthony, UK Financial Services Managing Partner at EY, comments: “FinTech Week London provides a timely reminder that progress on the digital agenda must remain a key priority for UK financial services firms as they look to thrive post-Brexit.

“With Government ambitions for the UK to be a global leader in FinTech, it is encouraging that the EY European Financial Services Boardroom Monitor shows UK banks, insurers and asset managers are ahead of the game compared to their European peers in terms of FinTech experience at board level.

“However, compared to more traditional skill areas, FinTech expertise in the boardroom is low, and there are variations across the industry.

“Given the majority (54%) of investors* see FinTech experience on boards as important to a financial services company’s investment case, there is a clear case for firms to continue to invest in attracting and building their board level FinTech expertise.”
