CMA says Microsoft can table a restructured takeover offer for Activision

by | Jul 13, 2023

(Sharecast News) – The Competition and Markets Authority opened the door to a possible approval of Microsoft’s takeover of videogame maker Activision Blizzard.
Having blocked the deal last April, on Wednesday the UK regulator said it was open to a restructuring of the transaction that addressed its concerns.

Regulators said the purchase of Activision and its games catalogue could hurt competition.

They also dismissed a proposal by which Microsoft would make some game titles to other platforms.

However, CMA said the US outfit had the option to table a restructured deal.

That would initiate another review.

Some observers believed that the CMA was implicitly signalling that a revised deal might indeed get its approval.
