Central bankers in Tokyo were expected to keep their main policy levers on hold.
However, the wording of their policy statement would be scrutinised for any shift in their policy stance.
Against that backdrop, at 0700 BST the Office for National Statistics was scheduled to release retail sales figures for August.
They would be preceded by consultancy GfK’s consumer confidence barometer for the UK in September.
