FTSE 100 movers: BP gushes higher; banks lose ground

London’s FTSE 100 was flat at 7,529.56 in afternoon trade on Friday.
BP was the standout gainer as oil prices rallied, with Brent crude hitting $92 a barrel.

BT was also a high riser, having lost ground on Thursday after it announced it was in talks with US-based Discovery about forming a sport broadcasting joint venture and reported a 3% drop in profit for the first nine months of the year.

On the downside, Chilean copper miner Antofagasta was weaker again. The shares fell earlier in the week after a top policymaker in Chile indicated that the government would need to raise taxes amid concerns about inflation.

Banks Lloyds, Barclays and NatWest were all in the red, having gained a day earlier after the Bank of England hiked interest rates to 0.5%.
