(Sharecast News) – London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.4% at 7,653.85 in afternoon trade on Thursday.
BP was the standout gainer on the index as oil prices remained higher, albeit lower than recent highs.
On the downside, Taylor Wimpey, WPP and B&Q owner Kingfisher all fell as they traded without entitlement to the dividend.
Barclays was lower as it emerged that former chief executive Jes Staley has been banned and fined nearly ยฃ2m by the City watchdog over his relationship with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Barclays said it had concluded that Staley was now ineligible for, or should forfeit, bonuses and other awards totalling ยฃ17.8m.
