FTSE 100 movers: Housebuilders bounce back; Antofagasta falls

London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.4% at 7,050.44 in quiet afternoon trade on Friday, with many traders away from their desks already ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend and half-term next week.
Housebuilders Barratt Developments, Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon and Berkeley were all higher.

The sector slumped a day earlier following a report that Taylor Wimpey was facing extra repair costs for a defective London housing block that wouldn’t be covered by the ยฃ165m it had already set aside for potentially unsafe legacy developments following the Grenfell Tower cladding scandal.

Going the other way, Chilean copper miner Antofagasta was on the back foot as copper prices declined, while precious metals miner Polymetal lost its shine as gold prices fell.
