London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.3% at 7,561.34 in afternoon trade on Monday.
Housebuilders were the standout gainers following a report the government is dropping its demand for them to contribute towards a £4bn cladding remediation fund. Barratt Developments, Persimmon and Berkeley were all higher.
Elsewhere, Endeavour Mining rose after saying it was set to start construction of the $290m expansion of its Sabodala-Massawa gold project in Senegal.
Going the other way, Aviva was in the red after Barclays downgraded the shares to ‘equalweight’. In the same research note, the bank upgraded Just Group, saying it favours insurers with exposure to bulk annuities.
Aviva was also in focus after announcing the appointment Charlotte Jones as chief financial officer with effect from September 5.
