London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.9% at 7,528.40 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.
Miners were on the front foot as metals prices rose, with Antofagasta, Anglo American, Glencore and Rio Tinto all higher.
Tech-focused investment trust Scottish Mortgage was also up following a strong performance from US tech stocks overnight.
Susannah Streeter, senior investment and markets analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown said Scottish Mortgage was “lifted by a bounce in the Nasdaq yesterday, and in particular the rebound in Tesla and Nio shares which it holds”.
Vodafone was weaker, having rallied on Monday on reports the telecoms company has been targeted by activist investor Cevian, putting management under pressure to improve its struggling performance.
