London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.4% in afternoon trade on Tuesday at 7,586.87.
Utilities National Grid, SSE and United Utilities were the standout gainers on the index.
Going the other way, telecommunications firm Airtel Africa was in the red after saying it has been working with the government of Nigeria to ensure that all subscribers provided valid National Identification Numbers to update SIM registration records.
Housebuilders Barratt and Taylor Wimpey were also on the back foot, having rallied on Monday on a report the government was dropping its demand for them to contribute towards a £4bn cladding remediation fund.
Lloyds Banking Group was also weaker after a downgrade to ‘equalweight’ from ‘overweight’ at Barclays, which cut the price target to 58p from 64p.
