London’s FTSE 250 was down 0.7% at 21,258.86 in afternoon trade on Thursday.
Ferrexpo was in the red as its stock went ex-dividend.
Cineworld tumbled after saying it swung to a huge full-year loss as the movie house chain felt the full impact of closures during the Covid-19 pandemic and warned any tightening of restrictions would force it to raise extra cash.
Cruise operator Carnival and travel company Tui were also on the back foot again amid worries about a third wave of Covid-19 and the impact of restrictions.
Tui said earlier that it has trimmed its capacity for the peak summer travel months to 75% of 2019 levels from 80%.
Going the other way, online trading platform operator CMC Markets rallied after it lifted its full-year guidance following a “strong” fourth-quarter performance. It now expects operating income for the year to the end of March 2021 to be slightly ahead of the upper end of the current range of consensus of ยฃ399.6m. Meanwhile, net operating income for FY2022 is seen in excess of ยฃ330m.
