London’s FTSE 250 was up 1.3% at 22,005.06 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.
Reopening stocks Cineworld and shopping centre owner Hammerson were both higher ahead of the relaxation of lockdown rules next week.
As far as Cineworld is concerned, traders also pointed to a strong performance from AMC Entertainment in the US on Monday after an analyst at B Riley said it was time to buy the stock.
The analyst noted an improving outlook for the balance sheet and a strong opening weekend for ‘Godzilla versus Kong’. In addition, the analyst said that AMC was well-positioned to benefit from the return of film audiences post-pandemic and this has had positive read-across to Cineworld, traders said.
Carnival was in the black after saying it plans to restart cruising from US ports in July.
Oxford Biomedica rallied after signing a new three-year development & supply agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim for the manufacture and supply of various types of viral vectors.
Homeserve was weaker despite saying it expects a £10m rise in annual profits as the home improvement market surged during the coronavirus pandemic.
