Nomura Asset Management makes initial donation of $50,000 to charity: water

Nomura Asset Management Co., Ltd. (NAM), have announced an initial donation of $50,000 to charity: water as part of a three year commitment to support their initiatives implemented over the past 15 years. 

This initial amount will be used to help fund a school in Niger and community projects in Ethiopia.

Charity: water is a non-profit organisation set up in in 2006 to help provide access to clean drinking water and sanitation to people in Africa, Asia and Central and Latin America. The charity partners with local entities to undertake projects bringing clean water to communities that don’t have access to it (e.g. by drilling wells).

Hiroyasu Koike, President and CEO of NAM, commented: “We are delighted to have made this initial donation to support the vital work charity:water has been doing, and help them fulfil this commitment to making an impact and ending the water crisis. This aligns with one of our key impact goals – Global Access to Clean Drinking Water – and we are excited to be part of this journey.”

1 in 10, or 771 million people globally still have no access to clean, safe drinking water and sanitation. Having access to clean water can save 16,000 lives a week, of which 43% are children under the age of 5. Additionally, every £1 invested in clean water has a £4-12 return for the local economy.

Over the past 15 years, charity: water has brought clean water to 14.7 million people, through 91,414 water projects in 29 countries. The charity aims to bring clean water to another 15 million people over the next 5 years.
