Principal Asset Management has appointed Phil Wood as head of equities client portfolio management, reporting to George Maris, chief investment officer and global head of equities. In this newly established leadership role, Wood will lead the global client portfolio management team, overseeing the articulation and positioning of the firm’s equity investment capabilities across markets and client channels.
Effective immediately, Wood will be responsible for ensuring a unified, high-quality client experience across geographies by partnering closely with portfolio managers, distribution, and marketing teams. His mandate includes enhancing client experience through consistent, strategic communication of investment insights, and supporting product development initiatives aligned with client needs and market opportunities. He will also focus on strengthening client retention and deepening engagement with consultants, key accounts, and institutional investors globally.
With more than 25 years of investment industry experience, Wood brings a proven track record of client-focused leadership, investment acumen, and cross-functional collaboration. He most recently served as Global Head of Client Portfolio Management – Equities at Janus Henderson Investors, where he led a team supporting more than $200 billion in equity and multi-asset strategies across geographies and client segments. Prior to that, he held senior positions at American Century Investments and Munder Capital Management, where he directed institutional services and strategic relationship management.
Wood earned a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University. He is based in Denver.
