Thursday preview: Chinese foreign trade, weekly US jobs numbers in focus

by | Sep 7, 2023

(Sharecast News) – The market spotlight would shift towards the People’s Republic of China on Thursday.
Overnight, the country’s customs administration was scheduled to publish foreign trade data for the month of August.

Foreign exchange reserves data would follow at 0900 BST.

In parallel, investors would be digesting Japanese reports covering GDP, money supply growth and foreign trade.

On home shores meanwhile, mortgage lender Halifax would release its house price index for that same month.

The other main release of the session would be the latest weekly unemployment claims figures at 1330 BST, alongside quarterly labour productivity and unit cost figures.

Those unit labour cost numbers might attract more attention than usual given the current focus on wage pressures emanating from the jobs market.

Across the Channel, German industrial production data for July would be published before the market open in London.

Second quarter euro area GDP and employment figures would be forthcoming too, at 1000 BST.
