Wall Street’s main market gauges were trading on the back foot despite the release of a fresh batch of modestly better-than-expected economic indicators.
At 1535 BST, the Dow Jones Industrials was slipping by 0.27% or 91.29 points to 33,881.23, while the S&P 500 was off by 0.14% or 6.01 points at 4,268.16.
The Nasdaq Composite meanwhile was dipping 0.19% to 12,917.53.
In parallel, the yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury note was up three basis points to 2.855%, alongside a 0.49% rise on the US dollar spot index to 107.10.
Data published earlier revealed an unexpected dip of 2,000 in the number of initial weekly jobless claims to 252,000 (consensus: 260,000).
The key Philly Fed regional manufacturing index meanwhile jumped back to a level of 6.2 for August, following a print of -12.3 in the prior month (consensus: -5.0).
Existing-home sales on the other hand did fall by 5.9% month-on-month in July, taking the annualised rate to 4.81m (consensus: 4.9m), the National Association of Realtors reported.
Nevertheless, at least for the near-term, all three reports pointed to steady or improved conditions ahead.
