Wednesday preview: US durable goods orders, Pending home sales in focus

The market spotlight in the middle of the week will be squarely on the US amid an exceedingly sparse economic calendar.
At 1330 BST, the Department of Commerce will publish preliminary figures for durable goods orders in July.

Economists at Barclays Research are forecasting a 1.3% jump month-on-month, versus consensus on 0.6%, but driven by the often volatile civilian aircraft orders.

Excluding transportation on the other hand are reversing the prior month’s gain and slipping by 0.4% on the month while core capital goods orders are expected to have seen no change.

Also due out is the National Association of Realtors’ Pending Home sales index for July, which economists anticipate improved from a reading of -8.6 in June to -2.5.
