(Sharecast News) – All eyes over the coming week would be on the Bank of England.
A recent and bigger-than-expected slowdown in inflation has arguably taken some of the pressure off of Bank with rate expectations having eased “quite markedly” in the past fewresult, said Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK.
Furthermore, an even more marked slowdown in price growth was expected in July, as the effects of the energy price cap were adjusted down, so an argument might be made that an end to rate hikes was near.
But wage growth might yet see Bank opt for a 50 basis point hike, but adopt a pause while it assessed the outlook.
The decision would be taken in the shadow of the U.S. non-farm payrolls report for July that was due out on the next day.
Hiring was expected to have picked up a bit in comparison to the previous month.
Some economists expressed caution when interpreting the figures due to the potential difficulty of seasonally adjusting the data over the summer months.
Nonetheless, other data points appeared to back up those forecasts.
Ahead of that key report, Tuesday would bring with it a slew of survey results on manufacturing in China, the euro area, UK and U.S..
They would be followed on Thursday by another barrage of surveys for those same geographies but covering services.
Other key releases due out over the week would include a preliminary reading on euro area consumer price inflation for July, on Monday, the US JOLTS report on Tuesday and the latest Challenger report on layoff announcements in the U.S: on Thursday.
