Financial markets’ focus over the coming week will be on the UK jobs market and the Federal Reserve.
On Tuesday, the Office for National Statistics is expected to reveal a one tenth of a percentage point drop in the UK rate of unemployment to 4.5% for the three months ending in September.
That same day, the US Treasury will conduct auctions for three and six-month bills and 10-year US Treasuries, while in Germany the ZEW institute will publish its closely-followed economic confidence index for October.
Wednesday will bring with it the release of the minutes of the US central bank’s last rate-setting meeting.
Investors will be looking for confirmation that the Fed was nearly set to announce a start to its tapering of asset purchases.
Reading for monthly UK GDP, US consumer prices and on Chinese foreign trade will also be released.
Chinese consumer price data are also due out, on Thursday.
Capping the week off, readings on US retail sales in September and a preliminary reading for US consumer confidence in October are scheduled for Friday.
