The market spotlight over the coming week will be on readings for consumer prices in August due out in the US, UK and euro area.
In the former, consensus is for the annual rate of increase in consumer prices to have drifted lower from 8.5% for July to 8.1% in August.
A raft of economic reports, including for retail sales, the Philly Fed manufacturing index and weekly jobless claims are all due out on Thursday.
They will be followed by a preliminary reading on the University of Michigan’s consumer confidence survey for September, on Friday.
Across the Channel, in the euro area, investors will be keeping a close eye on the newsflow out of and around Ukraine, including the ongoing offensive by Kyiv and Brussel’s plans to mitigate higher energy costs and to cap the price of oil.
As regards economic data, the ZEW Institute will release its economic confidence survey for September, on Tuesday, and a final reading for euro area consumer prices, on Friday.
A raft of economic indicators are also due out in the UK, including readings for monthly gross domestic product in July on Monday (consensus: 0.3% month-on-month), for the monthly rate of unemployment on Tuesday (consensus: 3.8%), consumer prices on Wednesday (consensus: 10.2% year-on-year) and for retail sales on Friday (consensus: -3.9% year-on-year).
Further afield, in the People’s Republic of China, a barrage of key activity data covering the month of August is due out on Friday.
